Youngsters will be the driving force in a two-year project to revamp Sidmouth’s skate park.

The Manstone Lane facility was the first in East Devon, but after two decades it is reaching the end of its shelf-life.

Owner Sidmouth Town Council has obtained designs for what could be possible for the site and this week committed to its renewal.

Town clerk Christopher Holland said: “This shows the council is committed to the youngsters and the skaters up there. We want to provide one of the best, if not the best, skate parks in the area. The funding is going to be the big thing. I think we’re looking at a two-year project.

“Sidmouth Town Council was one of the first in the area to have a skate park. Because we were an early adopter, we’re having to be an early renewer.”

The revamped facility will be designed in consultation with skate park users, school pupils and the youth centre users.

It is too early to have exact costings, but it will require a ‘significant sum’.
