A NEW initiative aimed at deterring criminals from targeting Sidmouth's rural areas was launched in Sidbury, Sidford and Newton Poppleford last week.
Nineteen farms have signed up to the Countryside Watch scheme, led by local PCSO Alex Powe (pictured).
The scheme which covers properties and premises in rural locations and benefits people who feel they are too remote to benefit from Neighbourhood Watch, has been developed to unite farms, rural businesses, properties and horse owners who have joint interest in protecting themselves from the possibility of crime.
"Its been really well received" said PCSO Powe. He added: "It's the first time something like this has been done in the area and gives farmers and farm owners who feel isolated a link to us and each other. Hopefully we can deter criminals by telling them there is a watch in place.
