THE first homes at the new town of Cranbrook are likely to be occupied by May, business leaders have been told.

The new community, which will eventually boast 6,500 homes and be similar in size to Honiton, is being built in phases as part of a wider development brief for the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point.

In the first phase, 1,100 homes will be constructed - including 300 affordable properties.

Cranbrook was the focal point of a presentation given to members of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry during a breakfast meeting last week. District council leader, Councillor Diviani - who said work on Clyst Honiton by-pass had started, pointed out �90million in Government funding had been secured for infrastructure work.

A planning application for the new town’s railway station is expected to be submitted soon.The meeting heard the project has the potential to deliver 26,000 jobs and 15,000 homes.
