A GARDEN and cream tea party is the next event on the calendar to raise funds to repair St Giles' Church windows in Sidbury.

So far 27,000 has been raised of the 41,500 needed to fix the crumbling stone frames and rusted iron-work, as well as restoring the original illumination of the beautiful church's stained glass windows.

Keith Dawson, of St Giles Window Fund Committee, said: "The campaign is going well. Contributions from church fund and generous individuals have already ensured a good start. Excellent support for money raising efforts such as the winter lunchtime concerts and last week's village revue 'Spring Fever' has made great additions."

Other events planned later in the year include a jazz concert by Pete Churchill in the village hall on Friday, October 9.

The cream tea party will be held on Sunday, May 3 in Sidbury Manor. The grounds and gardens will be open from 2pm-5pm and cream tea will be served in the manor.

All proceeds will go to the window fund and the organisers hope that the sun will shine and encourage lots of visitors.

Keith added: "Many of the St Giles' windows commemorate members of the Cave family and Sir John Cave is giving strong support to the window project."

Admission to the event for adults is 3 and accompanied children under 16 have free entry. Cream tea will cost 3. Parking will be available and well behaved dogs are welcome on leads.
