Warning over valuables on vehicles

OPPORTUNIST criminals are targeting valuables left in vehicles at Sidmouth tourist attractions.

Thieves plundered several items from an unattended Peugeot when they struck at Peak Hill car park last Friday.

Police this week warned: “If you want your car broken into, leave your valuables in there.”

“We’ve noticed a sudden increase in crimes of this type in East Devon,” said Sergeant Andy Turner.

“The message is don’t leave valuables in your car. All of the victims we had last year, and recently, have left items like purses and handbags in their vehicles. These are the only vehicles being targeted.”

An East Devon resident visiting Sidmouth fell victim to thieves last Friday, June 10, when their blue Peugeot was entered on Peak Hill between 11.20am and 11.50am.

Police have appealed for information. Contact officers on 08452 777444, crime reference: KS/11/333.
