Instead of being at home and unwrapping gifts and spending time with her family on Christmas Day, Sidmouth resident Carla Scott and a team of volunteers were out delivering meals to Sidmouth folk who would otherwise be spending the day alone.

Carla said: “Normally, we would have been meeting for a wonderful social event but this year, due to the pandemic, Sidmouth Community Christmas Lunch was delivered straight to the homes of 70 Sidmouth residents on Christmas Day.

“There are many people to thank for this, The Balfour for providing a hot meal, The Lions of Sidmouth and Waitrose for their donations, many residents of Sidmouth who gave their support by generously donating to the JustGiving which raised £1,350 and to others who gave independently.

“All of this would not have happened without the many volunteers who gave up their time to deliver the meals and to Mal Sawdy and his team for sorting out the delivery routes.
“Hopefully, next year we will be able to meet on the day and celebrate together.”
