THE fate of a 40,000 re-vamp of a children’s play area at The Ham will be sealed on Monday night.

THE fate of a 40,000 re-vamp of a children’s play area at The Ham will be sealed on Monday night.

Sidmouth Town Council will decide whether to proceed with the bid and place an order with the company that won the overwhelming support of families in a public poll in April.

The Herald reported how Ham designs by play firm HAG netted 71per cent of votes when more than 400 people turned out for a public consultation over the facility.

The firm’s designs included climbing rocks, a basket swing, a tall spinning item and zip wire.

Town and district councils have worked together and with parents on the project.

East Devon District Council has pledged 20,000 in ‘Section 106’ cash towards the bid, while the town council will stump up 10,000 and has been awarded a further 10,000 from the Sid Vale Association’s Keith Owen Fund.

It is hoped the transformation could be complete by the start of the summer holidays.

Replacing safety surfacing under the play area’s existing multi-unit will also be discussed by town councillors when they meet on Monday. New tiles could cost between 3,350 and 5,150.
