A victory for common sense has been declared after communications bosses agreed to remove equipment that is blocking visibility at a Sidmouth junction.

Councillor Stuart Hughes said a broadband cabinet in Manstone Mead was causing ‘so many safety problems’ for drivers turning onto Sidford Road.

It was branded an ‘accident waiting to happen’ but owner BT maintained that it complied with regulations and Devon County Council had approved the location.

After representations from Cllr Hughes, Devon’s highways chief, the cabinet is now set to be relocated a metre backwards onto the verge.

He said: “I’m delighted that common sense has prevailed and look forward to seeing the cabinet moved as soon as possible.”

District councillor Marianne Rixson raised the issue and said she was ‘very glad’ it was being addressed.
