It is beginning to look like Christmas in Sidmouth as the town prepares for its annual light switch on.

The lights will go for the first time on Saturday, November 18 at 5.30pm, and will be turned on by the Sid Valley’s Admiral Nurse Heidi Crook.

Heidi, who has been in the post since March, is Devon’s first admiral nurse providing specialist dementia care and support for families in the Sid Valley.

Also on the night, primary school pupils will have the chance to win £100 toy voucher from Gliddon’s Toys.

Sidmouth Town Council has provided funding for the festive display, with the support of the chamber of commerce, to decorate more areas of the town than ever before.

Councillor Ian McKenzie-Edwards, Chairman of Sidmouth Town Council, said: “This year, it is entirely fitting that the first Admiral Nurse in Devon, our own local celebrity, Heidi Crook, is going to be pushing the plunger to turn on our beautiful lights display.”
