OTTERY'S Christmas light switch-on and late night shopping extravaganza will take place on Friday, November 28.

Exeter FM personality Colin Slade will turn on the lights alongside the winner of the 'Why I want to turn on Ottery's lights' children's competition, Crealy Bear and the town's carnival royalty.

The switch-on ceremony will start at the Parish Church with a torchlight procession led by town cryer Dave Retter, the church choir and entrants in the children's fancy dress competition.

School choirs have been invited to sing festive carols while the Ottery Silver Band and the Flaming Morris dancers will be perform around the town.

- TOWNSFOLK with hidden talents have been encouraged to join in the festivities and share their talents with the town.

Phyllis Baxter, of the Tourist Information Centre, said: "In the past we have had children singing carols and playing guitars, it really adds to the festive atmosphere, we want people to just turn up and take part.
