Death not being treated as suspicious after body found in river at Harpford, near Sidmouth

The death of a man in his 80s, who was found in the River Otter, is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Harpford, near Sidmouth at 3.20pm on Tuesday (December 11) after a member of the public reported sightings of a body in the river.

Emergency services including, ambulance and fire service attended the area and the body of a man was located nearby in the water and recovered around 5pm.

The man, in his 80s, from the Sidmouth area was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Formal identification has yet to have taken place but next of kin have been informed.

This death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
