DEVELOPERS building more than 100 homes in Sidmouth have been given the go-ahead to reduce the number to 95.
Persimmon Homes, currently constructing 103 dwellings on land off Woolbrook Road, has been handed planning permission for amended blueprints which reduce that number by eight.
Changes will allow for larger homes in parts of the development.
Original plans state up to 60 per cent of the properties will be developed as ‘affordable’ homes.
East Devon District Council (EDDC) planning officers gave alterations the green-light
An officer’s report said: “The benefits of the development in helping meet the corporate priorities of the council, in particular the provision of affordable housing, outweigh the impact on the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.”
One Greenway Lane resident objected to the altered blueprints saying Sidmouth was “overpopulated” and one of its AONBs would be “lost forever”.
Sidmouth Town Councillors gave new proposals their backing in October last year.
