DEVELOPERS building more than 100 homes in Sidmouth want to reduce the number to 95.
Persimmon Homes has planning permission for 103 dwellings on land off Woolbrook Road and last week saw amended blueprints, which reduce that number to by eight, get the backing of Sidmouth civic leaders.
Changes will allow for larger homes in parts of the development.
Sidmouth Town Council Planning Committee members gave the bid their support, so long as the number of affordable homes promised isn’t affected.
“In some ways I’m disappointed as we’re having less dwellings than was planned for,” said Councillor Peter Sullivan as he backed the plans.
Cllr Sylvia Carr added: “I said at the time I hate Sidmouth being overdeveloped but people need houses. I hope these will be affordable.”
Plans state up to 60 per cent of properties will be developed as affordable homes.
Sidmouth Town Council’s view will be considered when East Devon District Council decides the fate of the proposals.
