Sidmouth’s Roman Catholic church will gain a new entrance, additional seating and a plant room area if a planning application is approved.

Leaders of the Church of the Most Precious Blood, in Radway, hope to demolish the existing single-storey entrance and create three single-storey extensions.

There will also be some minor alterations to the existing ‘distinctive’ building, which was built in the 1930s.

The application says: “The site is currently used for gathering, community and religious purposes, as well as residential (at the Presbytery), which is not intended to be altered as part of the planning application.

“The scheme proposes to add to and alter the existing building in order to make the spaces and their arrangement work better for the church’s current and future needs.”

East Devon District Council will decide the fate of the application.
