East Devon District Council (EDDC) can’t afford to install or empty any more receptacles.
The authority and its contractor already collect a whopping 270 tonnes of dog excrement from 350 bins across the region.
Sponsors willing to pay for the installation and upkeep of bins will now be asked to contact Sidmouth Town Council.
Councillors agreed to an EDDC request that any new enquiries about sponsorship of bins can be directed to the town clerk.
If proposed location and sponsorship arrangements are acceptable to the town council the clerk can then approach EDDC to install and service the new bin.
EDDC charges �59 per bin, which cost between �60 and �100 to put in place. Sponsors will also have to fork out �200 to see they are emptied three times a week for a year.
An EDDC spokesperson said: “The environment department frequently receives requests for additional dog waste bins at specific locations, but, unfortunately, in the current economic climate, we are simply unable to pay for installation and emptying of any more.”
The town council will also be responsible for securing payment from sponsors.
