TWINS from Sidmouth are enjoying the limelight of starring in a prime-time Saturday night television dating show watched by millions.

Sisters Sam and Cat Wilkinson, affectionately known as SamCat, have proven to be a double delight on ITV’S popular Take Me Out.

A Facebook group set up in support of the plucky pair, both 20, has also attracted more than 700 members.

Former Sidmouth College and King’s School students Sam and Cat, from Summerfield in Woolbrook, took time off university in October and November to film the show, which will be screened into the new year.

“It was an absolutely amazing once in a lifetime opportunity,” the twins told the Herald, “we’ve never been entertainers, but strangely, we found it second nature.”

The programme, hosted by comedian Paddy McGuinness, was filmed in Kent in front of a 600-strong studio audience.

SamCat are part of a panel of 30 girls who signal their interest in men presented to them by leaving their light on.

The sisters’ lips are sealed as to whether they were successful on their quest to find love.

“I applied for the show after being a little depressed about my single status, but I thought my form would get lost among the thousands of other applicants,” said Cat.

“The next morning I got an email saying ITV bosses thought we’d be perfect for the show, and beckoning us to an audition.

“At this point Sam was completely unaware of what I had got us both into! I actually filled out the application form on her behalf.

“We get so excited yet nervous about seeing ourselves on TV every week, especially as we know all our friends will be watching.”

Sam added: “Cat only told me when ITV offered to pay for us to go to London for an audition the next day! It was such a good experience.”
