The East Devon Beekeepers group has issued advice to residents ahead of swarming season.
Honey bees swarm to look for a home for a new colony and often cluster around a hollow tree or bush. If unavailable, the bees may chosen a chimney, compost or dustbin.
Richard Simpson, education officer for East Devon Beekeepers, said: “Left alone, swarmS are not dangerous, but should not be interfered with.
“We need the bees, which are under pressure from diseases and environmental stresses. If you want to help them, notify a beekeeper as soon as you spot the swarm. They will come round and collect it, taking the bees to a new home, safely in their own beehive.”
