A CHARITY event arranged by a Sidmouth woman to raise funds for a support group for cystic fibrosis sufferers in East Devon was a glitzy and glamorous affair.

Sandra Kirley, of Malvern Road, and her friend Sarah Price organised the '65 Roses Summer Ball', which took place at the end of last month at Sandy Park and raised 2,100.

Half of the proceeds raised will go to the Quality of Life Fund, which offers support and funds medical treatment for those with CF.

The organisation was set up by a group of East Devon people, including Sandra, whose daughter Erin suffers from CF.

The rest of the money will go to the national charity Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

More than 70 guests attended the ball and were greeted by Heart FM's Angels.

Local photographer Paul Claydon took snaps of the guests next to a black Ferrari, which was loaned by Brooklands of Exeter.

People were treated to pre-dinner drinks and canaps, a three-course-meal and entertainment came in the form of the Dave Parsons Jazz duo and Exmouth band The Embezzlers.

Guests were given the chance to bid for a number of fantastic items in a live auction hosted by Tim Ames, a professional entertainer and compere.

Sandra and Sarah said: "We were very lucky to have many wonderful items donated for the evening by local businesses and friends linked to the charity.

"We would like to thank everyone who has offered their help to make this event happen and raise a wonderful amount of money when times are hard, and we are looking forward to organising the next event!
