A development blueprint paving the way for 17,100 new homes across East Devon and a 12-acre business park in the Sid Valley has been signed off by district representatives.

At a specially-convened meeting of East Devon District Council (EDDC) last night (Thursday), members agreed to a list of modifications to the region’s Local Plan.

The changes, which were put forward by a government inspector tasked with scrutinising the document, include keeping controversial proposals for an employment site between Sidford and Sidbury in the plan.

EDDC voted 42 in favour of agreeing to the changes, with eight members – mainly councillors representing the Sid Valley – abstaining.

The Local Plan, once formally adopted, will serve as planning policy for the district until 2031 and beyond.
