Pupils from The Kings School have set off to visit their partner school in Ethiopia after raising more than 3,000 for the trip.

The 10 sixth-form students at the Ottery academy will lead sporting activities, learn more about the way of living and culture at the Dej Geresu Duki School in Woliso.

The King’s has been partnered with the Ethiopian school for several years after an initiative with the British Council, but has continued to forge links and engage with it through sport.

The pupils, who were selected for the trip after a written application process, have raised close to 3,500 with everything from cake sales, non-uniform days and an Ethiopian awareness day.

Deputy head of sixth-form Neil Abbott, who is leading the project, said the students were excited about this once in a lifetime experience.
