Native trees and bulbs planted at 21st anniversary visit to Weston Coombe
DESPITE heavy rain, a group of Year Seven Sidmouth College students have been planting trees, making bat boxes and doing pond dipping at Higher Weston Farm near Sidmouth.
Under the guidance of Sandy Macfadyen, the students have been visiting his farm for since 1991 to undertake activities to enhance the natural environment in and around Weston Coombe.
This year is the 21st anniversary of their visits.
Deputy principal, Julie Capewell, said: “Over the years students have planted many native trees. They have also planted native bulbs, made bird and bat boxes and dated hedgerows.”
She said this year’s two day visit proved productive, with some doing a farm walk to the Triangulation point more than 500 feet above sea level.
