THE King’s School PTFA have donated 450 toward equipment for a journalism club that is currently being set up.

This club will provide students with opportunities to become journalists in a range of fields, both in print and broadcasting.

The money will be used for cameras and sound and video recording equipment that will enable the young journalists to create their news stories at school and out and about.

The budding newshounds intend to create a Newsround-style TV bulletin so that students can catch up with all of the latest news while at school.

They are also planning a range of talking film, book and games reviews that will be screened in the library and hopefully during tutorial time.

As they are at a sports specialism college, they also plan to raise the profile of young sportsmen and women by reporting on fixtures and competitions.

This financial backing from the PTFA has made the club possible. It raises thousands of pounds for school each year through a range of activities. Most recently, its donations have supported ventures including performing arts, book and lunch clubs, Duke of Edinburgh, PE and catering.

In time, it is hoped that the club will work closely with the community, reporting on issues that are of concern to residents of Ottery and surrounding areas.
