YOUNGSTERS at Sidford Playgroup had an arresting encounter as part of this term’s ‘people who help us’ topic.
Sidmouth Police Community Support Officers Steve Blanchford-Cox and Alex Powe visited the playgroup at Sidford Social Hall last Thursday.
They talked to the children about their work and uniform, including what they wear to protect them in dangerous situations. They showed the children around their police van, explaining the equipment it contains and how the siren works, and allowing them to sit where prisoners are put.
Play leader Caroline Vansittart said the group of eight two to four-and-a-half year-olds enjoyed the 45-minute visit.
“It was a really good day,” said Caroline.
A visit from firefighters and a trip to Sidmouth Lifeboat are also planned as part of the topic. The children have been dressing up and using resources from Sidmouth Children’s Centre to learn more about the people in their community.
The playgroup, which meets weekdays, 9.30am-12.30pm and currently has 18 children on its books, is having an open morning on Wednesday, November 24, 10am-11.30am.
