BRANSCOMBE Primary School pupils have been on a welly walk to raise funds for African farmers.
Around 25 children took part in the two-mile sponsored walk in aid of Farm Africa’s Give Poverty the Boot campaign, which helps farmers’ families by providing funds for schools.
The children decorated their wellies in preparation for the walk, which National Trust ranger Lucy Morton led, She combined it with a Great Nut Hunt, which involved looking for hazelnuts as evidence of dormice in the Pit Coppice area. It is part of a national survey by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species and Natural England of where dormice are.
“Dormice eat nuts in a special way, so you can tell it’s a dormouse that’s eaten it as opposed to anything else,” said Lucy. “All the children seemed really keen on it and one of the girls found a dormouse nut.
“It was a great day.”
