BRANSCOMBE Primary School’s end of term production combined with presentations and fond farewells to those pupils leaving this summer.

Pupils performed Cinderella at the village hall on Thursday, July 15, but it wasn’t the traditional version of the fairytale, it was based on the adaptation found in Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes – complete with Prince Charming chopping off heads.

Full of colour and imagination, the production wowed the audience of family, friends and PTFA members.

“That was absolutely super,” said headteacher Katie Gray. “I know everyone had a lot of fun getting ready for today.”

Following the play, Martin Long, Every Child Matters co-ordinator at Sidmouth College, gave the departing Year 6 pupils records of achievement. It’s a tradition that is part of their move up to secondary school. He said: “I’ve met them before as part of the transition process and wish them well in their new schools.”

Fred, 11, was one of the leavers and played Prince Charming: “I’ve really enjoyed playing the prince and am looking forward to moving up to the college.”

Autumn, seven, received the Spirit of Devon award, which is given to schools by Devon County Council’s director for learning and schools, Judith Johnson, to recognise the pupil that shows the most enthusiasm for and engagement with learning. Staff picked Autumn for going that extra mile, including baking cakes for the school’s Space Race Museum launch.

Autumn, from Class 2, said: “I like learning about space and had fun when we did the ladybird hunt.”

Charlotte, seven, from Class 1 received a Citizenship award. “It’s for being a good team person and thinking about others,” said Mrs Gray.
