Government should invest “properly” in higher education says honours graduate Cai
FORMER Sidmouth College student Cai Weaver, has graduated with a first class honours degree in International Politics and International History from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
His proud parents, Philip and Melanie, who live in Temple Street, attended his graduation last Wednesday.
“We are very proud of him,” said Melanie, who has two other children, one of 28 and one of 14.
Cai, 25, hopes to pursue a Master’s degree, followed by a Phd, so that he can become a university lecturer.
However, lack of funding for his Master’s means he is taking a gap year to work and consider his options for the future.
He said: “I’ve had offers from five European Universities - the University of Tampere, University of Turku, The University of Maastricht, University of Flensburg and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
“It would be lovely if the UK government invested in higher education properly and I was able to pursue one of these offers.
“My dream job is becoming a lecturer in Russian politics at a university somewhere in Europe.”
