Sidmouth College placed more faith in some of its students and awarded them the position of prefect.
The 55 year-10 youngsters stepped into the role as their seniors stepped down to focus on their exams.
They had to apply in writing, as if going for a job, and commit to working in a subject department or around the campus at lunchtime.
Students can still apply to be prefects, and there will soon be interviews for lead prefect and deputy.
