Instrument making part of Beat the Beat workshop at Emmanuel Baptist Church

A PERCUSSION workshop called Beat the Beat, will take place in Sidmouth on Saturday, March 24.

The workshop, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Manstone Lane, will include instrument making and will run from 11.00am until 1.00pm.

Lunch will be served following the workshop.

Last year, Maggi Lambert organised a successful workshop that was attended by more than 50 people.

This year’s workshop will be run by Ash Leeds, a former youth worker, who sings in a couple of bands and is described as a “really nice guy who is very good at working with young people and children”.

Married with two daughters, one of whom attends Sidmouth College, Ash will lead those at the workshop through some rhythms.

Beat the Beat workshop is open to all ages, although those under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost for the day is £2 a child, or £5 for a family (three or more children).

You can book a place with the church’s youth and community worker, Mark Perkins on 07928 536985, leave a message on the church telephone: 01395 519327 or contact Maggi Lambert on 01395 576702.

Mark said: “This year we will begin with Ash and the percussion workshop, followed by instrument making.

“The lunch will be a new feature of this year’s workshop.”

Those booking should mention any special dietary needs.
