An Ottery playgroup can get outside and use its garden thanks to work by the family of one of its pupils.

Four-year-old Freya Bailey’s dad and granddad helped put in stairs at the back of the Busy Ottery Pre-school last week.

Her dad works for a building firm which encourages its employees to do work in the community, and then pays the project the cost of the labour.

So the playgroup not only has new stairs to be able to get up to their back garden, but £165 to help fund new equipment as well.

The children will now be able to plant things in a raised bed, and there is a bug area to teach them about insects and gardening.

Rachel Nancekivell, from Busy Otters, said it was great to now be able to use the space, and they hope to do story-time and other activities outside.

She said the preschool wanted to say a massive thank you to David Bailey and his father-in-law Frank for doing the work.
