Wear reflective clothing
SCHOOLS all over Devon have been called upon to reinforce the road safety message on students by uniform supplier Price & Buckland following the release of the latest road accident statistics by the Department for Transport, which show a 5.6 percent rise in child pedestrian casualty or injury to 147 in the past year. In 2008, one in every 552 children in East Devon died in a road accident.
The uniform suppliers are encouraging increased road safety awareness as children take to the streets for International Walk to School Month.
“At this time of year, the nights are drawing in and it can often be dark on the walk to and from school”, said Nick Buckland, the company’s joint managing director.
“As well as learning road safety, children need to be encouraged to wear reflective clothing or accessories, by both their parents and school.”
