children at Sidmouth Primary School were visited by emergency services when they took part in a 'safety week'.

Youngsters were involved in a number of workshops and activities designed to help them know how to react safely in many situations.

The sessions included road safety, internet safety and first aid.

Children also worked with a number of professionals from the police, St John Ambulance and fire service.

Youngsters in reception to year three also enjoyed a road safety puppet show.

Safety week organiser Kate Watts, a year five teacher and the school’s enjoy and achieve leader, said: “The children have gained a lot about their personal safety - so much so, they have gone home and told their parents what they should and shouldn’t be doing on the internet.

“I’ve had excellent feedback from parents, children and staff.

“The pupils particularly enjoyed visits from the different organisations.”

Mums and dads can see what youngsters learned when the school stages a follow-up forum on Wednesday.

Among guests during last week’s event was PC Gary Gates, East Devon’s Youth Prevention Officer.

PC Gates praised the scheme and all those involved in it.
