School serves community lunch
BRANSCOMBE Primary School served up a tasty treat for the community on Friday.
More than 100 people headed to the vilage hall for a lunch provided by Branscombe Primary School.
The menu of vegetable soup and apple crumble and custard had been created with produce from the school allotment and apples the pupils had picked at the Bakery Orchard.
Class 2 spent the morning preparing the meal and laying out the hall, and pupils were also tasked with clearing up afterwards. Class 2 teacher Angela Crawford said: “It’s to give something back to the village and show our appreciation for the community.”
Teaching assistants Glynis Newman and Pauline Phillips were pleased to be part of the event, in the kitchen and front of house. Glynis said: “It started smoothly, got a bit manic, then all came together in the end.”
Tomatoes, marrows and squash were among soup ingredients sourced from the allotments, which parents Judy and Jim Lovell have helped tend since January.
Branscombe churchwarden and keen veg grower Norman Brimson said: “It was a great meal, I try and support the school when they do anything.”
