Author Maria plans Sidmouth workshop on getting published

THE secrets of how to get articles or a book published will be shared by Sidmouth author, Maria McCarthy, at a special workshop in Sidmouth this month.

Author and journalist Maria, who writes for national newspapers and magazines, including The Daily Telegraph, Good Housekeeping and Cosmopolitan, will hold the workshop on Saturday, January 14, at Kennaway House, Sidmouth, from 11am to 1pm.

Maria, who lives in the Primley area of Sidmouth, will also run a five-week course on Writing Novels and Stories at Kennway House in January and February, for both beginners and more experienced writers.

She has had two non-fiction books published by Simon and Schuster and also lectures at Bristol and Oxford Brookes Universities.

For aspiring authors, there will be advice on how to get an agent, how to develop advances and royalties work and dealing with the editing process.

Journalism tips include developing feature ideas, approaching editors and negotiating fees. Maria said: “My approach is very down to earth. I aim to de-mystify the publishing process and give students the knowledge and confidence to pursue their goals.”
