The challenge called for Sidmouth College pupils who went off-timetable for a language challenge day.
Year eight pupils competed to design the best French café, from deciding the layout, staff uniform and menu to devising a marketing plan.
They were divided into teams, and the best five will have their ‘signature sandwiches’ from the day made and put on sale at the school restaurant in July. Ceri Henkus, the head of modern foreign languages, said: “The challenge day was fabulous with all students working enthusiastically in their teams. They have every reason to be proud of their achievements on the day and we all look forward to sampling the sandwiches.”
The winning team will be the one making the most profit when they are made in the kitchen by caterers Aspens.
