Sidmouth school stages Maori Haka
Pupils enjoy facts about New Zealand at fun assembly
UNDER the Maori face paint are pupils from Year Five at St John’s School, Sidmouth, who held a Maori Haka during assembly.
Watched by the junior school, all Year Five pupils took part. Emma, from Year Six, reports: “Everyone learnt their lines off by heart and projected their voices brilliantly.
“The assembly included a Maori song…a poem, a story explaining how they found New Zealand and how it got its name, many interesting facts and the Haka, which spread smiles and made us imagine the Maori doing it.”
She said the song “stuck in my head for the rest of the day”, adding it was a fun way of learning about the Maoris and their Haka, which is an ancestral war cry or challenge.
