St John’s School joined the ranks of Exeter Phoenix and the Haven Banks activity centre when it was validated as a Children’s University this month.

The scheme is aimed at raising aspirations, boosting achievement and fostering a love of learning so that youngsters can make the most of their abilities and interests.

All pupils in years three to nine can now collect stamps for every hour of ‘informal’ learning they complete, with certificates up for grabs and a special graduation ceremony.

Any child enrolled in the international scheme can join in with courses or after-school clubs on the Sidmouth campus – and its pupils will be able to visit other ‘Learning Destinations’ across the South West.
