Students ‘Battle’ on for skatepark
Pupils from The King’s School have been raising money for the Ottery skatepark with a music competition this week as part of Herald’s CAMPAIGN 2011.
The youngsters spent the week making t-shirts, posters, badges and other merchandise for last night’s ‘Battle of the Bands’.
Jo Elliott, a teacher at The King’s School who has been involved with the skatepark, said: “All proceeds go to much needed funds to buy as much equipment as possible for the park. Hidden costs and red tape mean funds are quickly drained so we are asking the general public to try and give as much money as possible for this local venture.”
The pupils have been raising money for many months, including organising a ‘mufti’ day at the school, and are desperate to raise the final funds needed to finish off this long-running project.
Ottery Town Council also approved a funding agreement between themselves and the Skate and BMX Park Trust for use of the £15,000 worth of Section 106 money they awarded the project earlier this year, but the group still needs the town’s help to finish off this much-needed facility.
