Coldharbour Farm Shop offers shoppers an ‘alternative’ option
The talents of three entrepreneurial friends have combined in a bid to promote local farming and offer ‘alternative, sustainable’ food options.
Coldharbour Farm Shop is a labour of love for Andrea Broadhurst, Beth Ashfield and Jacqueline Parker, who stock home-grown and home-reared produce straight from the farm, as well as homemade meals, cakes, jams and juices.
The idea of embarking on a joint venture first came to fruition when the trio went in on a ‘pig share’. Their business ethos focuses on quality, fresh local goods that have travelled ‘no food miles – but literally metres’ from the farm.
Fourth generation farmer Andrea said: “It’s good for people to understand what goes into farming and food production and the commitment that goes into it. I really feel that there should be more options to people and alternatives to supermarket food.”
The trio also sells flowers grown by Claire Gilles on the farm’s premises and will soon have local honey available.
The shop, at the top of Slade Road, is open seven days a week, from 9am to 6pm, and there are plenty of exciting events planned throughout the year.
