GREEN-fingered Ottery residents wanting to grow their own fruit and vegetables can reap the benefits of a new, tailor-made at facility.

GREEN-fingered Ottery residents wanting to grow their own fruit and vegetables can reap the benefits of a new, tailor-made at facility.

The Otter Valley Harvest Hub, based in the walled garden of Escot Park, provides its members with the opportunity to learn about, grow and take home traditional produce as well as more unusual purple Ukraine tomatoes, Melothrie exploding cucumbers, and chocolate peppers

The project to grow fruit against the south-facing walls at the attraction and tender crops in its Victorian greenhouse will see members rewarded with fresh food as a reward for the work they put in.

With the waiting list for an Ottery allotment standing at 27, project co-ordinator Phil Foggitt said: "This is a great opportunity for people who perhaps are waiting for an allotment or don't want to take on this commitment, but can put in a day or half a day a week.
