THE life and times of the well-known Kingsley Squire will be featured in this year's Branscombe Project Exhibition.

The week long event will feature some wonderful trips down memory lane including 'Kingsley Squire-Man and Boy'.

It also incorporates a 'kids talk back' feature in which former pupils of the village school, of which Kingsley's father, Stanley, was the schoolmaster, will be giving their accounts of being a school child.

Kingsley, who worked for the Daily Express in Bristol, the West Midlands and Fleet Street for 24 years before he came home to Sidmouth in l988 to report for the Herald, said: "Yes, this really is a walk down memory lane for us old boys and girls of Branscombe School. I was a pupil during the war years and I remember them as happy, carefree days.

"The curriculum, as I recall, was all about the three R's and by seven, unless you were an absolute dunce, you could read, write and do your sums. Everybody had to take the 11 plus exam and my father and Miss Fooks, who took the junior class, had a pretty good record in getting pupils through. I wasn't one of them. But I put that down to being a late developer!"

In addition, an archive of 200 village postcards has been assembled, the old water meadows and gypsum works have been rediscovered and there will be another instalment of the never-ending Napoli saga.

The exhibition runs from Saturday, October 25 to Friday, October 31 in Branscombe Village Hall from 12-5.30pm.

A special tea party will be held tomorrow, Saturday, October 25 for those who went to Branscombe School in Stanley Squire's time or before from 2pm onwards.
