Police and the fire service spent time looking for a group of youngsters and labelled their actions a drain on emergency services resources.

Officers received reports ten youths aged around 14 had lit a fire by the weir near Tipton St John and had thrown a "large explosive", possibly a petrol can or aerosol into it causing loud bangs at around 4.30pm last Saturday, May 22.

"It's concerning enough someone rang in about it," said PC Phil Thomas, the fact police and a fire engine spent time looking for the group was a drain on resources."

No youths were found in relation to the incident, but PC Thomas believes it took place near the weir on the River Otter in Tipton.
