An extensive project to restore a listed Sidmouth home has been given the go-ahead.
The owners of Salcombe Lodge in Sid Road now have permission to completely re-roof the property, repair or replace 30 windows, fix 26 doors and work on the chimneys.
They can also restore and reconstruct the verandah, widen the garage door opening and treat the damp.
East Devon District Council approved the works on the Grade-II listed home last week but imposed strict controls on how they should be carried out.
The two-storey detached stucco villa was built in around 1810 and there are a number of Gothic features. It is set back from the road with beech and chestnut trees.
According to the application, there is a distinct ‘ecclesiastical’ feel about specific parts of interior of Salcombe Lodge, which may indicate a clergyman lived there or was involved in the design.
