EXTRA journeys during the peak summer period have been scheduled for the popular CoastlinX53 bus service.

This week new summer bus time guides have been published for areas across Devon to give residents and visitors comprehensive information of bus services in their local area.

The new guides, including one for the X53 service between Exeter, Seaton, Lyme Regis, Bridport, Abbotsbury and Weymouth, give a summary of rail and National Express Coach services, maps of bus routes and information about the types of tickets available.

There are editions for each area of the county and East Devon's covers bus routes in Exmouth, Axminster, Honiton, Seaton, and Sidmouth.

The X53 service operates daily all year round, with buses running every two hours, including Bank Holidays, and is financially supported by Devon and Dorset County Councils and operated by First Hampshire and Dorset.

Sidmouth-based Devon County Council cabinet member for Highways and Transportation, Councillor Stuart Hughes, said: "These guides provide comprehensive information not only of the bus services, but all the tickets and bus routes.

"They are invaluable for anyone planning to use public transport across the county, either for their commute or a day out in Devon."

The guides are available from tourist information centres, bus company offices, Post Offices and libraries.
