WHILE students from Bicton College prepare to eat more than 200 bananas during Fairtrade Fortnight, a Sidmouth shopkeeper is bringing a taste of Africa to the town.

Judith Smith, who runs The Village Collection, High Street, will hold a day-long Fairtrade event at her shop on Friday, March 6, offering tea and coffee with chocolates between 10am and 3pm and wine and African nibbles from 5pm to 8pm, to raise awareness of the Fairtrade ethos.

Tanzanian Judith said: "I buy direct from small-scale co-operatives. We aim to support them by paying workers a price that covers the cost of the product and reflects the quality of their work.

"We hope to raise awareness of Fairtrade and help people understand trade issues.

"Over recent years the Fairtrade campaign has generated amazing publicity and tremendous support in Devon.
