IT wasn’t just the adults having all the fun this FolkWeek.

Youngsters of all ages sang, danced, played, crafted and juggled their way through a range of activities at the family arena in Blackmore Gardens.

Families relaxed with a picnic and watched the free entertainment, writes Charlie Lister.

The more energetic among them danced, played the outdoor games and even tried out circus skills.

Nancy Hawthorn, 12, from Shaftesbury, said: “We come to the festival every year and I love it here. We come down to practice on the stilts every day.”

Nancy’s friend Joseph Day, nine, from Exeter, was showing off his diablo skills, he added: “There’s loads of fun stuff going on in the workshops as well.”

Miriam Ayling’s Super Singers were in action in the workshop marquee. The 20-strong group of seven to 12-year-olds sang their favourite ‘kangaroo’ round, and played the ‘bungalow’ dancing game.

Sidmouth Town Council is a keen supporter of young people’s events in Blackmore Gardens throughout the week.
