Sir David Hempleman-Adams is also a climate change campaigner after seeing how global warming has melted Polar ice
One of Britain’s most intrepid explorers, Sir David Hempleman-Adams, found his way to Kennaway House for the last of the Meet the Author events of 2018.
On Thursday, November 8, Sir David discussed his latest book, Open Water, Breaking Ice: The Polar Ocean Challenge, which raises awareness of the dramatic changes occurring in the Arctic due to climate change.
While describing his thrilling adventures competing in the Polar Ocean Challenge around the North Pole, Sir David reminded guests that while his adventures are impressive feats of ingenuity, endurance and courage, they also expose the effects of global warming; ice that should have prevented the expedition’s route through the North East and North West passages was no longer an insurmountable obstacle.
Kennaway House’s manager Nikki Dawkins said, “The thought-provoking discussion ended with questions from the audience, bringing a thoroughly enjoyable evening to a close. Sir David then joined Kennaway House staff and volunteers for supper in the Cellar Bar.”
