Shoppers can donate their unwanted bras as part of a new recycling scheme helping to raise money for a breast cancer research charity.
Fields of Sidmouth’s new eye catching bra bank has been filled up three times since it began the scheme at the start of August in support of Against Breast Cancer.
The charity receives £700 for each tonne donated by preventing the bras from being sent to landlfill.
The scheme has also supported local commerce in Africa where the bras are sent to as well as creating jobs in the UK.
Claire Jenkins, promotions and marketing manager at Fields said: “Supporting such a worthy charity is very important to the staff at Field, as they have been touched by colleagues who have been affected by breast cancer.”
Bernadette Jones, chief executive of Against Breast Cancer, added: “We have received very positive feedback from retailers adopting the scheme and great warmth from the public for an idea that helps the environment as well as charity.”
Fields is now planning its annual fundraiser to ‘wear it pink’ on Friday, October 19.
