Long-awaited redevelopment work can finally begin on Ottery’s derelict factory site after the remaining paperwork was signed-off by planning officials this week.

Plans to transform the former Ottermill Switchgear plot were submitted in November 2012, but complex legal agreements, which will see work completed in phases, have taken nearly two years to be finalised.

A district council spokesman said the final approval had been granted, adding: “In accordance with various conditions attached to the permissions, this allows the applicant to start work on site and will safeguard the future of the important and iconic listed building.”
