CHIMNEY FIRE: The fire service was called to a chimney fire on Saturday, September 29, in Yonder Street which took more than three hours to put out.

A spokesman said one appliance from Ottery responded to the incident in a residential property around 10.45pm, where the crew confirmed a chimney fire involving a slate roof and Rayburn range was under way.

He said the firemen eventually extinguished the blaze at 2am, having used specialist chimney gear and small tools.

MUSICIAN: An Ottery teen is through to the next round of a nationwide competition to uncover the best new musical talent.

Singer Phoebe Lea, 14, a pupil at The King’s School, will perform at the Area Final of Open Mic UK, in Reading, in December, after making it through the latest round in Bristol last weekend.
