Sidmouth fire fighters who helped tackle flooding in Somerset and a landslip on the train line at Dawlish have been recognised for their efforts.
The station’s crew was among several awarded letters of commendation from the chief fire officer.
The service also created the Devon and Somerset Medal, presented for actions in the face of extreme circumstances, which was this year awarded for the response to a tragic crash on the M5. A spokesman said of the flooding and crash: “Whilst these incidents are not unique, they are, for some personnel, exceptional and challenging operational situations the like of which many fire fighters may not experience during their entire careers.”
Long service and good conduct medals were awarded to firefighters and support staff who had completed at least 20 years’ service with good conduct.
